The Retirement Decision Lab

Decision 4 · Week 4 · Wed Dec 2

How do I make a retirement plan I will actually follow?

SHORT ANSWERWrite down four decisions with numbers attached: when you stop working, how much income you keep, where you live, and what your monthly life costs. If you can't state the plan in a few sentences, it will be hard to follow.

Write the reason next to each decision. When markets drop or family pressure rises, the reason is what keeps you from reacting.

Set review dates. Check the plan once a year and after any big change, rather than every time the news is loud.

Decide in advance what would make you change course. "If the dollar falls 15% against my spending currency, I cut travel first" is a plan. "I'll see" is not.

Where it gets personal

Week 4 puts income, work, location and lifestyle into one strategy: your personal Retirement Decision Brief.
